05 February 2025

The University of Malaga (UMA) and Keysight Technologies Inc. have opened a 6G research and innovation lab in Spain dedicated to addressing use cases and technological challenges.

Called the Malaga 6G Research and Innovation Lab, the facility will focus on three main workspaces: monitor, measurement and experience.

The monitor workspace will allow for real-time monitoring of the 5G and 6G mobile network platforms. The measurement workspace will be equipped with Keysight’s hardware and software test and measurement solutions. Finally, the experience workspace will showcase 6G use cases and demonstrations.

The facility will focus on the following main areas:

  • Spectrum and components — Looking at high speed and data throughput with frequency technology and component design.
  • AI and ML — Enhancing network performance through these solutions.
  • Digital twins — To provide testing and development in a zero-risk environment.
  • Networked sensing — To enable new applications and services.
  • New network topologies — Developing open and scalable network architectures.
  • Security and privacy — To secure against cyberattacks.
