Wing, the drone delivery arm of Alphabet, has demonstrated how blood samples for patients undergoing surgery are transported between hospitals.
Wing said the goal is to improve patient care with faster and more frequent transportation and analysis of blood samples. In the video, blood is sent from Guy’s hospital in London to St. Thomas hospital.
Drones are shown in the video flying from one hospital to the next where blood sample deliveries are being introduced. This takes just two minutes, allowing for patients to receive medications faster or service faster depending on what the blood samples reveal.
Additionally, Wing said this type of technology eliminates the need for vehicles to travel along the streets and potentially saves people from getting hurt or taking too long to get to their destination due to traffic or other obstacles.
Wing said it is now flying up to 10 on-demand transfers, Monday through Friday, with each delivery containing several samples in a secure medical canister.
