Pure play foundry GlobalFoundries (GF) has signed a pair of deals with ICsense, a TDK Group, and semiconductor materials maker Soitec aimed at boosting application specific integrated circuit manufacturing and radio frequency silicon on insulator (RF-SOI) substrates.
The deal with Soitec would deliver 300 mmm RF-SOI substrates to GF for the production of RF-SOI semiconductors on its process technologies including its advanced RF solution, 9SW.
The commitment will allow GF to ensure a supply of advanced RF-SOI engineered substrates required for:
- 5G
- 5G-Advanced
- Wi-Fi
- Smart radio frequency front-end (RFFE) modules
The 9SW RF-SOI platform is used for high-end devices where RF performance, improved power and scalability are needed. It features advanced switching, low-noise amplifiers and logic processing capabilities.
The Soitec 300 mmm substrate offers benefits like:
- Reduced off-capacitance
- Enhanced and sustained power efficiency
- Superior RF performance
Meanwhile, the deal with ICsense will give access to GF’s semiconductor foundry services for ASICs that will allow for quicker market launches for custom ICs. It will also provide early access to new design and process data, GF said.
