Newark, a division of Avnet Inc., is now carrying a low-cost Raspberry Pi (RPi) 5 2 GB version designed for hobbyists and RPi enthusiasts.
The single board computer (SBC), priced about $50, is an affordable option to be used for experimental projects or innovations.
The entry level Raspberry Pi 5 2GB features:
- 2.4 GHz, quad-core 64 bit Arm Cortex-A76 CPU
- 512 KB per-core L2 caches
- 2 MB shared L3 cache 50 MHz system clock
- VideoCore VII GPU
- Dual 4Kp60 HEVC decoder
- HDMI display output
- 2GB LPDDR4X-4267 SDRAM
- Dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi
- Bluetooth 5.0/Bluetooth Low Energy
“Our ongoing investments in optimizing the resource footprint of Raspberry Pi OS allow many use cases to run within the 2GB memory capacity of this new variant, while the 4GB and 8GB variants remain available for those users with more demanding requirements,” said Eben Upton, CEO at Raspberry Pi.
Some of the areas where the Raspberry Pi 5 could be used include DIY projects, education, media, server, desktop computers and other internet of things applications.
