T-Mobile has agreed to acquire substantially UScellular’s wireless operations, a move that will expand its 5G network to millions of users in rural areas.
The deal will include UScellular’s wireless customers and stores as well as certain spectrum assets.
T-Mobile said under the deal it would move users of UScellular coverage from a roaming experience to full nationwide access after converting to T-Mobile’s 5G network. Additionally, T-Mobile users will be able to access UScellular’s footprint across the country.
“T-Mobile’s purchase and integration of UScellular’s wireless operations will provide best-in-class connectivity to rural Americans through enhanced nationwide coverage and service offerings at more compelling price points,” said Laurent Therivel, CEO of UScellular. “The transaction provides our customers access to better coverage and speeds, as well as unlimited texting in more than 215 countries, content offers, device upgrades and other T-Mobile benefits.”
