Arctic unveils 3GPP compliant platform for 5G private networks

22 May 2024

Arctic Semiconductor has announced a 3GPP compliant platform for small cell platforms for 5G private networks.

Part of its IceWings line of products, the platform includes Skyworks Solutions Inc.’s family of power amplifiers and timing products and Synergy Design’s carrier grade 5G vRAN solutions. Arctic calls solution one of the first open software small cell platforms that supports 3GPP standard requirements at low power consumption.

The Skyworks amplifiers are used in 3GPP-compliant small cell platforms and use Arctic’s digital pre-distortion model to create a low-power design that also has high signal quality and coverage. Synergy’s 5G smart RAN solution, also part of the IceWings platform, delivers carrier-grade RAN performance for increased time-to-market for small cell platform.

Private 5G networks are used across sectors such as factories, ports, mines and hotels with high data transmission speeds and reduced latency. Distributed small cells help these networks to enhance the coverage and power use.

The platform also:

  • Operates at any 5G FR1 frequency band from 600 MHz to 7.2 GHz
  • Has three different variants – 2 n79 bands and 1 n78 band
  • Supports two different bands that work in multiple countries
