Mercury Systems introduces rugged blade server for aerospace and defense embedded computing

03 November 2023

Massachusetts-based Mercury Systems Inc. has introduced its Common Module System (CMS) X08 rugged open standards-based blade server for aerospace and defense applications at sea, on land or in the air.

The blade server is intended for networking, virtualization, big data and signals intelligence (SIGINT) workload applications. Further, the 1 U to 3 U chassis featuring an 18 inch depth, fits up to six compute-, storage- or network-optimized blades.

Additionally, the CMS X08 also supports a fourth-generation Intel Xeon scalable processor, integrates with the NVIDIA H100 graphics processing unit (GPU), runs the PCI Express Gen 5.0 networking architecture, supports 100 gigabit to 400 gigabit Ethernet and accommodates Gen 5 NVMe data storage.

The CMS X08 blade server is reportedly built around the Open Compute Project (OCP) openEDGE standard and allows designers to eliminate vendor lock-in, simplify technology upgrades, cut costs and expedite workloads.

The developers of the CMS X08 blade server explain that the openEDGE standard for embedded computing enables the CMS X08 to accelerate deployment and refresh advanced server technologies. Additionally, with advanced cooling and resilience to shock, vibration, and temperature extremes, the CMS X08 can reportedly operate in aerospace and defense edge deployments.
