Mouser Electronics Inc. is now stocking Arduino’s Opta micro programmable logic controller (PLC) that allows designers, engineers and makers to build industrial automation projects.

The Opta PLC supports real-time control, monitoring and predictive maintenance for industrial internet of things (IIoT) and automation applications.

The Arduino Opta is based on the STM32H747XI dual-core microcontroller from ST Microelectronics, which includes the Arm Cortex-M7 core running at up to 480 MHz and a low-power Cortex-M4 core running at up to 240 MHz and a shared floating-point unit.

The Opta is offered in three variants:

  • Opta Lite — with Ethernet and USB Type-C connectivity
  • Opta RS485 — adds a RS485 half-duplex
  • Opta Wi-Fi — includes Bluetooth and Wi-Fi radios

Mouser said all models support over-the-air updates and a dedicated secure element for cryptographic abilities. Additionally, the models support relays for switching four loads of up to 2.3 kW each. The devices also support IEC 61131-3 PLC languages and fieldbus integration via Modbus TCP and Modbus RTU.
