TDK Corp. plans to double the production capacity of its TMR magnetic sensors by expanding its Asama Techno Factory in Saku-shi, Nagano, Japan, in response to increasing demand.
After its investment, production volume will be about two times the current monthly production beginning in the first half of 2025. TDK cites growing demand for angle sensors and current sensors in automotive applications as well as industrial equipment sectors for increasing manufacturing growth.
Specifically, the TMR magnetic sensors are used for applications that require precision, reliability and safety like:
- Angle sensors for assistive motor control.
- Brake booster motor control in electric power steering.
- Current sensors for battery charge/discharge control.
- Robots, smartphones and other lower-power devices.
TDK’s Asama Techno Factory was previously used to manufacture hard disk drive magnetic heads before it was transformed in 2014 into a TMR magnetic sensors facility. The expansion of the facility will help the company to increase its value of magnetic sensor technology in current and future applications, TDK said.
