Microchip Technology Inc. has expanded its portfolio of system-on-modules (SOMs) with an embedded microprocessor running at 600 MHz.

The SOM contains an embedded SAM9X60D1G-SOM and includes the MPU and DDR in a single package along with power supplies, clocks and memory storage. The SOM is also equipped with 4 Gb SLC NAND flash and a power management IC.

Other features include:

  • 10/100 KSZ8081 Ethernet PHY
  • 1Kb serial EEPROM with pre-programmed MAC address
  • Secure boot with on-chip secure key storage
  • Hardware encryption engine
  • True random generator

The goal of the SOM is to use a common set of components from Microchip to reduce the complexity and overall costs of the PCB. The SOM can be used across a wide range of industries including:

  • Medical equipment
  • Automotive telematics and infotainment systems
  • Electric vehicle chargers
  • Industrial and automation control and more

It could also be used for computing capabilities with multiple communications interfaces that are qualified once and then customized for separate projects.
