Bosch Automotive Electronics is teaming with Multiverse Computing on what is claimed to be one of the first applications of quantum computing with a digital twin.
The project will take place at Bosch’s Madrid, Spain, factory where a virtual replica, or digital twin, will be created of the factory.
Multiverse will use its quantum-based optimization algorithms to assess the performance of equipment as well as the overall production process to enhance quality control and improve overall efficiencies such as energy and waste management.
Bosch said the project aligns with its smart factory strategy and researching how quantum and quantum-inspired machine learning tools can help with its competitiveness.
The companies said that the current phase in the Madrid fab project — implementation of the quantum algorithms — will take place later this year with a potential integration in a production environment across Bosch manufacturing facilities later.
Multiverse Computing CEO Enrique Lizaso Olmos said the project is “one of the first applications of quantum computing with a digital twin” and will show how “quantum computing can offer real value to companies now.”
Currently, Bosch has Industry 4.0 efforts in 240 plants where more than 120,000 connected machines and more than 250,000 devices are active. The project could increase productivity up to 25%.
