Skyway and Zing Drone Delivery have successfully conducted their first flight for product delivery in a new Florida service.
Residents in Montverde, Florida, can order goods and food through the service where a drone will drop off the package to homes.
According to the companies, a faster way to receive goods is needed due to recent construction on the Florida Turnpike and County Road 455 which has extended the drive to shopping options from 10 minutes to 45 minutes.
Skyway has initiated low-altitude weather services alongside its navigation services to ensure safe delivery. The deal includes local food sources such as Tacos El Carro, a food truck in Florida, where tacos and other Mexican food can be delivered.
Skyway said this is one of many service areas to come soon, including the Fort Lauderdale, Florida, area and eventually the entire state of Florida.
The companies also plan to expand beyond just food deliveries such as everything from alcohol to medications.
"Understanding the use case and operating drone services helps our company build better products," said Ian Annase, CEO and founder of Zing. "This is just the beginning of a new frontier. Drone delivery is going to change the world and the lives of our customers."
This is not the first drone delivery project in Florida as UPS started a drone service with CVS to deliver medicine in The Villages, Florida, serving more than 135,000 senior residents.
