Location map data aggregator HERE Technologies has added 400 indoor parking garages to its mapping technology in a partnership with APCOA and Propark Mobility at CES 2022.
The coverage expansion started in North America with Propark Mobility, one of the largest parking companies on the continent, and the indoor maps include key elements of the garages such as parking spaces, lanes, ramps and pedestrian walkways.
HERE’s technology integrated routing gives pedestrians and vehicles knowledge of parking garage entrances and exits seamlessly when connected to the HERE outdoor street map. This gives the mapping service beyond just street level navigation and opens new potential technologies such as automated valet parking.
“Most navigation systems today provide guidance that ends at the curbside,” said Victor van Dinten, head of indoor parking and charging at HERE. “With our new indoor maps, we are helping changing that. Contextual guidance can now continue all the way to individual parking spaces inside garages. Once parked, our pedestrian routing capabilities provide detailed guidance to the final destination.”
