Microwave multiplexers: These go to 67

Pickering Interfaces, a supplier of modular signal switching and simulation solutions for use in electronic test and verification, recently announced a frequency upgrade to its range of microwave multiplexers. The new models are designed to address the latest test applications in areas of 5G, radar and line-of-sight communications.

A maximum frequency of 67 GHz in now available in PXI, PXIe and LXI formats, in unterminated SP4T and SP6T form factors. (Frequency update aside, the PXIe format is a newcomer to the field; Pickering recently announced that all its RF and microwave PXI products that operate at 3 GHz or above would now be offered in optional PXIe format.) The new multiplexers can be combined with the company’s existing 67 GHz changeover switch modules for designing a wide range of switching systems, including large multiplexer and matrix networks. The 67 GHz SP4T and SP6T relays also can be specified in Pickering’s Turnkey LXI Microwave Switch and Signal Routing Subsystems offering, a custom-designed, fully integrated solution for those with limited engineering resources.

Source: Pickering InterfacesAccording to Pickering, the new devices are among the first 67 GHz multi-throw switches available on the market. They employ relays offering the same life expectancy (2M operations) as lower-frequency products, and, when compared to existing 50 GHz switches, they exhibit virtually identical performance (up to 50 GHz) — helping them to maintain performance characteristics for legacy test systems.

In addition, because the higher frequency multiplexers maintain the same physical dimensions as existing lower frequency switches, users are able to upgrade while maintaining the same slot count or rack height within their test systems.

  • Available as PXI or PXIe modules

  • 50 ohm versions with 3 GHz to 67 GHz bandwidth
  • 50 ohm terminated and unterminated versions
  • 75 ohm versions with 2.5 GHz bandwidth

LXI multiplexer (model 60-800)

  • High performance six channel RF multiplexer
  • 18 GHz, 26.5 GHz, 40 GHz, 50 GHz and 67 GHz bandwidth
  • Unterminated versions with up to 16 multiplexer banks
  • Terminated versions with up to 14 multiplexer banks
  • 50 ohm characteristic impedance

LXI multiplexer (model 60-803)

  • High performance four channel RF multiplexer
  • 18 GHz, 26.5 GHz, 40 GHz, 50 GHz and 67 GHz Bandwidth
  • Unterminated versions with up to 16 multiplexer banks
  • Terminated versions with up to 14 multiplexer banks
  • 50 ohm characteristic impedance

All three models offer a three-year warranty.
