Front-end module for LPWAN, LoRa, IoT and industrial applications

03 February 2021

A new high performance, highly integrated radio frequency (RF) front-end module from Skyworks is designed for low-power wide-area networking (LPWAN). The SKY66422-11 module supports long range (LoRa), SigFox and other unlicensed band technologies as well as high-power industrial, scientific, medical applications operating in the 860 MHz to 930 MHz frequency range.

The SKY66421-11 is designed for ease of use and maximum flexibility with fully matched 50 Ω TX (or TX_ALT) and RX inputs and antenna outputs, and digital controls compatible with 1.6 V to 3.6 V complementary metal–Source: SkyworksSource: Skyworksoxide semiconductor levels.

The RF blocks operate over a wide supply voltage range from 2.0 V to 4.8 V, allowing the SKY66421-11 to be used in battery-powered applications over a wide spectrum of the battery discharge curve.

This new solution delivers improved sensitivity and more than double the operating range versus a standalone system-on-chip. The SKY66422-11 requires minimal board space and consumes low power, making it ideal for internet of things (IoT) and industrial platforms including sensors, beacons, smartwatches, thermostats, wireless cameras, medical pendants and smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

The SKY66421-11 is packaged in a 16-pin, 3.0 x 3.0 x 0.75 mm multi-chip module package.
