Billed as the first phone sanitizer designed for in-car use, the UV8LED from Utilimedic will be demonstrated at the upcoming CES 2021 tradeshow.

The in-car phone sanitizer, which won a CES Innovation Honoree Award, is engineered to provide 360 degree sanitization of personal devices and other high touch items in just five minutes and comes equipped with a non-slip silicone pad to sit on top of a car’s dashboard.

Germs can remain infectious on surfaces for many hours and even longer on hard surfaces such as plastic and stainless steel. With the recent COVID-19 pandemic, it has become even more important to disinfect surfaces and highly used devices given the high transmission rate of the virus.

“People are much more concerned with spreading germs and are more diligently sanitizing their hands amid the pandemic, so we created a product that can sanitize your phone, something that is constantly being touched, right in your car while you are on the go,” said Jim Matthay, product manager at Utilimedic. “By creating a product that quickly cleans many high-touch devices and is specifically made for inside the car, we have filled a niche need during a time when everyone is looking to stay safe and germ-free for themselves and their families.”

The base of the sanitizing compartment has four UV-C transparent adjustable legs to separate the phone and chamber walls to keep it secured while moving in a vehicle. The chamber is made of vacuum plated aluminum for UV-C reflectivity while still allowing Bluetooth, cellular and Wi-Fi signals to pass through during sanitizing.

Utilimedic said the device can withstand extreme temperatures inside a vehicle and is protected from sunlight, heat, cold and humidity as well as includes a dual USB 12 V adapter to connect the sanitizer and mobile phone to power simultaneously.

CES 2021 will take place in a virtual format from Jan. 11 through Jan. 14.
