Signify has completed the light emitting diode (LED) lighting system on the west side of the Daniel Hoan Memorial Bridge, one of the iconic landmarks in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

The colorful architectural LED lighting, working in conjunction with Signify’s Interact Landmark connected lighting system, allows the city to illuminate the bridge with different types of scenes depending on the seasons or holiday.

After a fundraising effort was launched to revitalize the bridge, illumination was part of the plan to help give it a new look and generate social change. Every light on the Hoan bridge represents a story about the city or a dedication to those that have improved the quality of life.

The LED connected lighting system includes more than 1,800 Color Kinetics FlexElite nodes and nearly 50 ArchiPoint fixtures. These LED luminaires create high-visibility, direct-view applications of white or colored light and can be changed depending on the scenario. The system can also be used to perform light shows with animated effects and be synchronized to music.

Signify is also working with the city of Milwaukee to develop science, technology, engineering, art and math (STEAM) learning programs using the technology that powers the Hoan Bridge’s lighting to teach skills like coding.

The connected LED lighting system will premiere this week with a music-driven light show.
