KT Corp. and Taiwan’s Far Eastone Telecommunications Co. Ltd. (FET) have signed an agreement, which was done virtually online due to the COVID-19 pandemic, to collaborate on 5G services and digital content development.
FET said it plans to upgrade some 20% of its existing LTE subscribers to 5G within a year and the agreement will call for the joint development of fifth-generation services and digital contents. The deal will also help facilitate the worldwide sale of KT’s video conference app, which offers ultra HD over-the-top media streaming, webzine content and early commercialization of 5G roaming.
KT’s video conference application software using 3D and augmented reality technologies allows up to eight people to meet for HD video conferences as well as games, picture quizzes and YouTube watching.
In recent 5G spectrum auctions, FET secured 80 MHz and 400 MHz in 3.5 GHz and 28 GHz bandwidth, respectively. The company plans to commercialize 5G services beginning in the third quarter.
