An unnamed startup is offering $100,000 to a candidate for potentially using their likeness as the face of a series of humanoid robots.
Geomiq, a London-based additive manufacturing and machining startup, has been tasked with finding the robot’s face by the undisclosed robotics company that is developing the machines.
The money will grant the robotics company the licensing rights to place the image of the person onto the humanoid robots. While Geomiq doesn’t have many details about the project, the face has to be “kind and friendly” as it will be reproduced in potentially thousands of versions of the robot globally.
The humanoid robots will be used as a “virtual friend” for the elderly and the project has been under development for the past five years. The privately funded robotics company plans to go into production on the humanoid robots in 2020.
The robotics company told Geomiq it is remaining secretive because the robot will soon be readily available and hopes “the campaign will create extra buzz ahead of its eventual release.”
When the right face is found, the person will be given full details on the project, while those not chosen will not be contacted.
Those interested in seeing their face plastered on numerous robots all over the world can submit photos to faces@geomiq.com.
