Porsche has taken a minority stake in the Israeli start-up TriEye, a maker of short-wave infrared (SWIR) sensor technology.
This technology enhances safety in vehicles fitted for autonomous driving functions in poor visibility conditions such as dust, fog, murkiness or rain. TriEye uses a patent pending technology that makes SWIR HD cameras manufactured at a fraction of the current cost.
“We see great potential in this sensor technology that paves the way for the next generation of driver assistance systems and autonomous driving functions,” said Michael Steiner, member of the executive board for research and development at Porsche AG. “SWIR can be a key element: it offers enhanced safety at a competitive price.”
The financial investment will allow TriEye to help commercialize and proliferate the market for SWIR.
Terms of the investment were not disclosed.
