Qorvo has been awarded a certification for the multi-sensor and generic switch features of Zigbee Green power v1.1 that expand the type of smart home sensors that can be powered by energy harvesting.
The multi-sensor extension to the Green power standard compresses data to reduce the length of Green Power communication frames. This results in longer battery life and support for multiple types of smart home sensors in a single device. A single indoor device could be used to measure temperature, humidity, light levels and air quality.
Qorvo said its RF products, filters and software for smart home data communications and the Internet of Things (IoT) will benefit from the Zigbee Green Power standard by opting for features that are essential to making a fully-networked smart home a practical reality.
In the new specification, functions can be assigned to the various switches on a device during commissioning using the generic switch extension. Qorvo said this allows end customer flexibility and reduces the volume of part numbers for the product manufacturer.
