Lighting vendor Osram Opto Semiconductor is expanding its Oslon Black portfolio for infrared illumination designed for camera systems such as closed-circuit television (CCTV).

The SFH 4718A IRED light emitting diode (LED) provides illumination for camera systems with a medium capture range no longer requiring any secondary optics. The LEDs span all types of infrared illumination for applications such as CCTV systems using infrared light to monitor public spaces, parking lots and company premises as well as museums and bank foyers. Adding infrared light ensures that the camera delivers high-quality images regardless of the prevailing light conditions and could be used for automatic license plate recognition systems.

Because the systems allow CCTVs to be built without additional secondary optics, the overall systems are more compact and cost-effective. At the same time, the SFH4718A LED provides radiant intensity of 730 W/sr, with a current of 1 amp and optical output of 0.8 watts.
