In preparation for the 2020 Olympic Games, one supplier looks to bring public awareness of what is possible from fuel cell electric vehicles with a plan to have more than 100 fuel cell buses (FC buses) in operation in the greater Tokyo metropolitan area before the games commence.

The Toyota Sora is the first FC bus to receive vehicle type certification in Japan. The design is based on the same technology used in their first production-ready fuel cell electric vehicle, the Mirai, which is referred to as the Toyota Fuel Cell System (TFCS).

The TFCS provides for a zero-emission vehicle providing high-performance, quiet operation and minimal vibration.

The Sora is also equipped with a high-capacity external power source with the potential to act as an emergency power source when needed. It also features LED lights, eight high-definition cameras, auto-collapsing horizontal seating and improved safety functions which further improve comfort and functionality.
