Samson Sky has announced that it has reached 615 reservations for its Switchblade flying sports car.
Priced at $140,000, the Switchblade is a fast flying car in the air while on land the wings and tail are safely protected while in driving mode. The benefit of having the wings and tail put away is that a bump in driving mode could render the vehicle not flightworthy or they could get damaged while parked without the user even knowing it.
The Switchblade protects the wings behind clamshell doors that close around the stowed wings to protect them from being damaged or tampered with while on the ground.
"When the Switchblade finishes its first flight and the nuances of construction are resolved, there will be something really new and really different in general aviation," says Jerry Clark, retired USAF pilot and aerospace engineer. "The era of 'The Jetsons' will have finally arrived and the world of aviation will undergo the same transition that the internet generated in the 1990's. The technology of our time will finally be in the air at a price that is reachable."
Samson Sky says they are a few months from the first flight for the Switchblade with production of the flying car expect to follow about 12 months after the first flight.
Samson Sky announced its reservation numbers at the 44th annual Sun 'n Fun Expo and Fly-In, one of the top air shows in the world.
