Video: Watch Xpeng debut its flying car at CES

18 January 2024

During CES 2024 last week, Xpeng Aeroht demonstrated its flying car in North America for the first time on the show floor.

The car transitions from car mode, where it can drive on streets as a legal vehicle, to aircraft mode where wings emerge from inside the aircraft’s fuselage.

During the show, the company had the flying car transition multiple times with the wings folding back into the vehicle to become a traditional type of car and then back again to flight mode with fully expanding wings. It isn’t a quick process, but it is interesting how it can fold into itself.

There are only two seats and in those seats resides a steering wheel and a joystick for both modes of transportation, so this isn’t going to be a family vehicle. Additionally, there isn’t much space for a lot of cargo either.

The goal of the flying car is to address short-distance, low altitude travel where it would be used to help with congested traffic.
