The Air Care Climatronic system uses an air quality sensor with an active biogenic filter reported to be more effective than conventional pollen filters. When activated in the air conditioning menu, the air purification system mixes incoming fresh air with recirculated air inside the passenger compartment. If excessive levels of pollutants are registered by the sensor, the system switches to recirculation mode to prevent entry of exhaust gas or washer fluid odors.

Interior climate is also regulated by sun and humidity sensors; the latter maintains healthy humidity levels and prevents window fogging.

Air Care Climatronic is available in the new Polo and in all Golf models with two-zone air conditioning (for the driver and front-seat passenger). The Touran, Tiguan, Passat and Arteon are available with a three-zone system (with additional individual control for the rear passenger compartment).
