TomTom has acquired Berlin-based start-up Autonomos, a self-driving software and services company.
The deal will advance TomTom’s map-based products for autonomous driving applications, the company says. With an in-house, self-driving stack, TomTom can enhance its products, including HD Map, RoadDNA localization technology as well as navigation, traffic and other cloud services.
Autonomos provides software and support to self-driving assistance systems, including full demonstration-level autonomous driving software stack, 3-D senor technology and digital image processing. The company was established by a number of engineers that worked for several years on autonomous driving research at the Free University of Berlin.
