Let's Celebrate Technology: It's IEEE Day

04 October 2016

Maybe it's just October 4th to some people, but for those who can appreciate the day in 1884, the first time that engineers worldwide and IEEE members gathered to share technical ideas, it's IEEE Day.

This year, IEEE, the world's largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity, will focus its theme on "Leveraging Technology for a Better Tomorrow."

A series of worldwide celebrations are taking place today in order to demonstrate the ways thousands of IEEE members in local communities join together to collaborate on ideas that leverage technology for a better tomorrow.

The day is organized by student volunteers, young professionals, and IEEE staff that have worked together to try and make this year's celebration bigger than last year.

In 2015, IEEE Day was comprised of 646 worldwide events, 124 global ambassadors, received 246 photo submissions and 17 video submissions. The team will be working diligently to initiate, motivate, and coordinate the various events that are going on to celebrate the event.

The IEEE Day team is encouraging engineers worldwide to share their excitement and visions. The IEEE Day website will be updated through out the day, documenting the festivities. Be sure to check out the IEEE Day social network pages and accounts, too.
