Low-Capacitance ESD Protection Diode Saves Space in Portable Electronics

13 July 2016

Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. has released a bidirectional symmetrical two-line ESD protection diode in the ultra-compact LLP1006-3L package for portable electronics. Saving space over solutions in the SOT23 package, the VBUS05M2-HT1 offers ultra-low capacitance and leakage current for the protection of high-speed data lines against transient voltage signals.

Source: Vishay The device released today combines a low height of < 0.4 mm with low load capacitance of 0.35 pF typical. Featuring a “flow through” design, the VBUS05M2-HT1 is optimized for the protection of high-speed data lines including HDMI, DisplayPort, eSATA, USB 3.0, 1394/FireWire and Thunderbolt in smartphones, tablets, notebooks and wearable devices.

The protection diode features a low maximum leakage current of < 0.1 µA at the working voltage of 5.5 V, a breakdown voltage of 8.5 V typical at 1 mA, and a maximum clamping voltage of 18 V at 3.6 A. The VBUS05M2-HT1 provides transient protection for data lines as per IEC 61000-4-2 at ± 20 kV (air and contact discharge).

The device offers a moisture sensitivity level (MSL) of one in accordance to J-STD-020, a UL 94 V-0 flammability rating, and supports reflow soldering to +260° C for 10 s. The protection diode is RoHS-compliant and halogen-free.

Samples and production quantities of the VBUS05M2-HT1 are available now, with lead times of eight weeks for large orders.
