Texas Instruments (TI) has expanded its voice remote-control solutions inside its SimpleLink ultra-low power platform.
The platform allows developers to add ultra-low power Bluetooth low energy, Zigbee RF4CE or multi-standard connectivity to make the next generation of voice activity remote controls possible, as well as new features for TVs and set-top boxes.
The SimpleLink platform allows for traditional remote control use but can also be used to control lights or record TV programs by using voice activation. Source: TI The platform includes a new SimpleLink Zigbee wireless microcontroller and uses an existing Bluetooth low-energy wireless CPU so that designers can develop remote-control products with different technologies. The platform allows for voice-activated commands and search, gesturing, pointing and more, TI says.
The SimpleLink platform integrates a multi-standard radio, ARM Cortex-M3 core, direct microphone interface, up to 31 GPIOs and sensor controller all in a single package. TI says the platform could be extended to other applications, such as wearables, building automation and automotive. In addition to performing a traditional use for remote controls, the technology can also be used to record favorite TV shows or even control lights in a room with the user's voice.
