Vishay Completes Purchase of Opto Chip Firm

Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (Malvern, Pa.), a vendor of discrete semiconductors and passive electronic components, has completed the acquisition of all the outstanding shares of Capella Microsystems Inc. (New Taipei City, Taiwan).

Capella is fabless IC company specializing in optoelectronic products including ambient light sensors, color sensors, short distance and long distance proximity sensors, gesture sensors, ultraviolet sensors, IrDA interface transceivers and optical encoders.

Vishay acquired 89 percent of Capella's shares in September 2014. The total price paid by Vishay is approximately US$201.2 million funded with cash on-hand and a $53 million loan. As of the date Vishay acquired its controlling interest, Capella had approximately $50 million in cash, cash equivalents and short-term investments and no long-term debt.
