Intel Corp. has signed a definitive agreement to acquire the assets of Mindspeed Technologies Inc.'s wireless infrastructure business unit for roughly $12 million. The deal is expected to close in February 2014.
Last month, M/A-COM Technology Solutions Holdings Inc., a supplier of RF, microwave and millimeter wave products, agreed to buy most of Mindspeed in a deal worth about $272 million. But M/A-COM did not acquire Mindspeed's communications processor business, which the companies said at the time would be sold separately.
In a blog posting, Intel said the technology it is acquiring from Mindspeed would make important contributions to how Intel Archiecture-based solutions are transforming wireless access within mobile network infrastructure.
"We are excited that our wireless infrastructure business is being incorporated into Intel," commented Raouf Y. Halim, chief executive officer of Mindspeed.
