Virtual and mixed reality goggles continue to be a smaller market on the consumer electronics scale, but for those that have adopted the goggles, they typically love them.

And iterations continue to up the content and graphics for consumers to add 4K content in the form of games, web content and other media like movies and television streaming.

Apple has gotten into the market as well with its Apple Vision Pro goggles. The latest iteration is based on Apple’s proprietary M5 applications processor and includes 3D TLC NAND flash memory from Micron Technology.

The following is a partial deep dive into the Apple Vision Pro VR goggles conducted by TechInsights.

Main board

On the main board of the Apple Pro Vision resides some of the most powerful components including the Apple M5 64-bit Deca-core applications processor and sensor processing unit and Micron Technology’s multichip memory. Other electronic components on the board include:

  • Kioxia’s multichip memory, 256 GB 3D TLC NAND flash
  • Apple’s power management ICs
  • Nexperia’s non-inverting buffer IC and voltage level translator
  • Analogix Semiconductor’s Slimport 4K Ultra-HD receiver with memory
  • ST Microelectronics’ power management chip
  • NXP Semiconductors’ NFC and secure element chip and display port multiplexer
  • Texas Instruments’ single two-input positive OR gate and 600 mA step-down converter
  • Renesas’ load switch
  • Onsemi’s LDO regulators
  • SiTime’s MEMS oscillator
  • Analog Devices’ 8.5 A dual step-down regulator

Audio strap board

The audio strap board is found on either side of the Apple Pro Vision but on each board is found the following electronic components:

  • Texas Instruments’ 4-amp step-down DC-DC converter, single two-input positive OR gate, one-bit bidirectional voltage-level transistor and LDO regulator
  • Nexperia’s voltage level translator and dual inverter
  • Analog Devices’ precision operational amplifier
  • Cirrus Logic’s audio DSP
  • NXP Semiconductors’ authentication IC

On the micro-OLED board inside the Apple Pro Vision VR goggles are the following electronic components:

  • Texas Instruments’ single three-input positive AND gate, triple buffer/driver, current/power monitor and DC-DC step-down converter
  • Apple’s micro-OLED display driver
  • Analog Devics’ LDO regulator
  • Winbond’s serial flash memory
  • Renesas’ programmable mixed-signal array
