At the start of 2025, the market-leading IEC 61131-3 provider CODESYS Group received its first certification for CODESYS Virtual Safe Control SL from TÜV Süd. This version included the use of Profinet/PROFISAFE I/Os. The certification has now been extended to FSoE (EtherCAT Safety). This means that in safety-critical applications, users now have greater freedom of choice when it comes to the safe fieldbus and safety I/Os used. This means that all devices based on an x86 CPU (64-bit) and a Linux operating system along with a container engine, can now be used as safety controllers for which SIL3 according to IEC 61508 is required. No special dual-channel safety hardware is needed for the approval of the safety system with EtherCAT safety I/Os.

CODESYS Virtual Safe Control SL is available in the CODESYS Store. Licensing is based on the number of safety I/O channels required.
