Telit Cinterion, Nokia collaborate on mission-critical platform

15 January 2026

Internet of things (IoT) module maker Telit Cinterion is collaborating with Nokia to develop a mission-critical communication and in-network compute capabilities platform.

Under the deal, Telit Cinterion’s cellular, satellite and Wi-Fi communication modules will be integrated with Nokia’s Cognitive Digital Mine (CDM) platform. This platform would be used for oil/gas, logistics, mining and other heavy industries to reduce downtime and emissions while improving safety and productivity.

Nokia’s CDM platform uses AI and digital twins to enable edge computing to make real-time decisions about vehicles and other equipment in the field. The CDM has a black box that powers the platform in the form of a compute and connectivity engine designed for extreme industrial environments.

This compute black box uses AI for tasks like:

  • Bonding dual 5G links
  • Switching across triple Wi-Fi radios
  • Falling back to satellite communications

The CDM will use Telit Cinterion’s latest modules for 5G new radio (NR), Wi-Fi 6/7 and non-terrestrial networks (NTN) or SATCOM. The company said this will allow for a new class of smart, self-optimizing machines that can sense, decide and act locally. This happens even when disconnected from the cloud.

“This collaboration marks a pivotal moment for mission-critical industries,” said Lelio di Martino, CDM GM at Nokia. “By integrating Telit Cinterion’s most advanced communication modules with Nokia’s physical agentic AI, digital twin capabilities, and in-network computing platform of the CDM black box, we are setting the foundation for the next decade of industrial autonomy. Together, we are delivering a resilient, future-proof roadmap for industries that must operate safely, sustainably and without interruption.”
