Solid-state microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) audio chipmaker xMEMS Labs plans to launch AI smart glasses prototypes at its upcoming seminar series in September that it claims will enable slimmer, lighter and more AI-capable eyewear.
The smart glasses will feature the company’s Sycamore high-fidelity MEMS loudspeaker and its µCooling in-frame active cooling technology.
xMEMS said smart glasses are actively including more AI features like:
- AI assistants
- Real-time translation
- Spatial navigation
- Hands-free tools
This means that thermal performance and audio fidelity are a critical component in next-generation smart glasses, the company said.
“Smart glasses are poised to become the next AI interface — transforming how we access information, communicate and experience the world,” said Mike Housholder, VP of Marketing at xMEMS Labs.
However, it can only reach this transformative technology if the wearables can manage heat and speaker bulk, Housholder said. The Sycamore MEMS audio loudspeaker is 70% smaller and 90% lighter than traditional coil speakers and has the ability for natural conversational AI and music playback.
µCooling is a vibration-free cooling technology inside the frame of eyewear that can reduce surface temperatures by up to 40%, xMEMS said.
The smart glasses prototypes are set to launch at xMEMS Live 2025 taking place September 16, 2025, in Taipei, Taiwan, and on September 18, 2025, in Shenzhen, China.
