Igus, a Germany-based motion plastics specialist, has developed an affordable humanoid robot intended for assorted automation tasks.
According to its developers, Iggy Rob measures 5 feet, 7 inches in height, and can function for eight hours on a single battery charge. Additionally, the robot features two arms, a stable wheeled base and it costs around $54,448.

Mounted on the ReBeL Move autonomous mobile robot (AMR) platform wheeled base, Iggy Rob can traverse assorted environments. Likewise, the robot is outfitted with two robotic arms, two bionic hands, a lidar sensor and 3D cameras. Further, the robot can carry a load of about 110 pounds and handle a payload of up to 220 pounds.
In order to control and coordinate Iggy Rob's duties and movements, the robot relies on igus Robot Control (iRC) software, the company added.
Possible applications for Iggy Rob include service roles at reception desks, internal transport tasks and duties such as clearing cutlery. The company also intends to use the robot internally for placing components into injection-molding machines.
“Because our environment is built by and for humans, the potential for humanoid robots is immense. Iggy Rob offers a practical, affordable way for companies to begin integrating robotics into their operations,” the company explained in a statement.
