APEX Expo 2025: AI-powered software prevents defects in PCBs

11 March 2025

At next week’s APEX Expo 2025, Cybord will launch AI-powered real-time interception (RTI) software for electronic designs that can prevent defective components from being assembled onto a printed circuit board (PCB) assembly.

The software can identify and discard faulty components within milliseconds before placement in a PCB, reducing the waste and costs to manufacturers. The goal of the software is to mitigate risk and improve efficiency in design. The software uses deep learning and AI algorithms to prevent defective, damaged or counterfeit components from being assembled onto PCBs in real time with 99.9% accuracy.

The main features of the software include:

  • Instantaneous detection and rejection
  • Drop-in integration
  • Analytics and monitoring

Cybord said that with electronic components powering everything these days, the task of ensuring reliability is often overlooked, leading to rework and scrap rates for manufacturers having a wider impact. The software aims to improve these aspects as well as improve reliability for consumers.

The solution is already integrated into Fuji America’s pick-and-place machines.
