New humanoid robot to take on household chores

25 February 2025

A humanoid robot capable of performing household chores — like serving coffee and cleaning, for instance — has been developed by the California-based firm 1X Technologies.

The NEO Gamma reportedly walks with a natural human gait and arm swings. Likewise, the robot can squat down to pick things up from the ground and sit in chairs. Improving the overall safety of the robot is that it is equipped with soft covers.

To enable the NEO Gamma to pick up objects, the company trained a visual manipulation model capable of picking up a large variety of objects in assorted scenarios.

Meanwhile, the robot’s conversational voice interface allows users to naturally converse with a 1X developed language model (LLM). The new design also features Emotive Ear Rings, which improves communication.

According to the company, the robot features four microphones — located in the front, back, left and right — with beamforming and echo cancellation, which offers clear audio capture and a three-speaker system.

The robot is detailed in the accompanying video, which appears courtesy of 1X.
