Aiming to improve business connectivity, AT&T has introduced what it calls a hybrid device that combines fiber internet with its 5G network.
Claimed to be the first converged device for business users, the integrated gateway would be available for those needing speeds of 1 Gbps or higher.
What it does
The gateway is designed to use fiber as the main source of connectivity but in the event of an outage, the gateway switches to AT&T’s 5G network until the fiber service is restored.
While other devices have cellular failovers, the integrated gateway is said to be the first to combine the functionality in a single device, AT&T said.
The initial rollout is expected in the following states:
- Arkansas
- California
- Kansas
- Missouri
- Nevada
- Oklahoma
- Texas
The box is equipped with Wi-Fi 6E technology utilizing the 6 GHz band that allows for enhanced coverage and bandwidth. The single box includes all the components needed for deployment including the fiber internet and 5G wireless capability.
