Electric vehicle (EV) charging vendor ChargePoint is collaborating with LG Electronics on a charging solution that combines ChargePoint’s software with LG’s hardware.
Under the deal, the ChargePoint management software and LG’s EV charging hardware will form a commercial charging solution that is slated to be delivered later this summer, the companies said.
LG’s AC and DC charging stations will be operated by ChargePoint to form new offerings and the potential to expand the network to more than 306,000 charging ports with additional companies signing agreements. The collaboration is also expected to help with the creation of public sector infrastructure projects and domestic production of EV charging stations in the U.S.
The chargers will be paired with ChargePoint’s cloud software, and the chargers are UL-certified for charging stability and Energy Star certification.
Future collaborations
The companies may collaborate further to include ChargePoint EV charging solutions with LG energy storage systems. Potentially, this could involve the integration of the LG ThinQ smart home platform with ChargePoint’s residential charger or chargers that use LG’s digital-out-of-home advertising platform.
