Microchip unveils SiC gate driver solution

22 February 2024

To help meet the demand of widespread electrification, Microchip Technology has introduced a 3.3 kV XIFM plug-and-play silicon carbide (SiC) gate driver.

The mSiC device contains augmented switching technology that is designed to work out-of-the-box with preconfigured module settings to reduce design and evaluation time, Microchip said.

The XIFM gate driver features digital control, an integrated power supply and a robust fiber-optic interface for improving noise immunity.

Other features of the device include:

  • Preconfigured turn on/off
  • 10.2 kV reinforced isolation with built-in monitoring
  • Temperature protection functions
  • DC link monitoring
  • Undervoltage lockout
  • Overvoltage lockout
  • Short circuit/overcurrent protection
  • Negative temperature coefficient

The device is designed to streamline the designing, testing and qualifying of gate driver circuits in a plug-and-play solution.
