Silicon Labs and Wolfspeed introduce gate driver board

19 February 2021

Silicon Labs and Wolfspeed have developed a gate driver board for electric vehicle (EV) chargers and motor drives for industrial and automotive markets.

The Si823Hx board uses Wolfspeed’s WolfPack power module and includes an isolated gate driver and Si88xx digital isolator with integrated dc-dc converter. The isolated gate driver technology can be used in a variety of power applications including high-power converters and inverters, motors and traction drives and EV chargers.

The gate driver board protects power modules employing any switch technology including silicon carbide (SiC) based modules that are used in most demanding high-power applications.

The two-channel Si823Hx board includes built-in dead time control and overlap protection in a small package for half-bridge topology safely and with minimal design effort. It can also communicate power module temperature to the controller and generates all the power supplies for the board, further reducing costs and simplifying the design.
