APEC 2023: Saelig unveils MCU series for power electronics

24 March 2023

At this week’s Applied Power Electronics Conference (APEC), Saelig Co. Inc. introduced a new series of microcontrollers and supporting components designed to replace higher cost LLC solutions.

When combined with commodity flyback DC-DC converters, the ICs are capable of achieving an efficiency profile that is better than LLC solutions, Saelig said.

The Pulsiv Osmium microcontrollers do not directly determine output power so they can be used as a platform for any application requiring 1 W up to 10 kW by adjusting only three system components and connecting a suitable DC/DC converter, the company said.

The Osmium also eliminates hazardous inrush current, allowing industrial power supplies and LED lighting products to simplify designs and reduce the cost of system installation, Saelig said.

The MCUs support:

  • Active bridge control
  • Configurable hold-up
  • X-Cap discharge
  • HVDC output selection
  • Power consumption indicator
  • Grid failure detection
