Menlo Micro has introduced what it claims is the world’s highest power microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) power switch capable of handling 10A in a miniature package.
The chip, called the MM9200 Ideal Switch, features an ultra-low 0.010 ohm contact resistance and is the lowest loss, the company said.
The MEMS switch targets a range of applications such as industrial automation, smart building controls, advanced energy management systems and other space-constrained power distribution uses. Menlo Micro said the switch will allow for power distribution from micro-grid to smart circuit breakers or smart point of load switching and more.
Other features include:
- Extreme mechanical endurance in the billions of switching cycles.
- Arc-free capability to reduce unplanned maintenance and replacement costs.
- 10 µs actuation speed that is more than 1,000x faster than its electromechanical equivalent.
- Employs true metal-to-metal contacts to reduce losses and power dissipation by more than 90% compared to solid-state devices.
- Space and power efficient electrostatic drive.
