Researchers at Panasonic Corp. have commercialized what they claim is the first double-sided full wiring transparent conductive film for a new roll-to-roll manufacturing method.

Typically, etching methods for manufacturing a metal mesh allow for the production of a metal mesh with a larger size and lower resistance. However, it creates an issue where the wiring in the metal mesh is visible.

The roll-to-roll method has achieved a width of 2 μm, allowing a transparent conductive film combining low resistance and high transmissivity. Additionally, this method allows full wiring on both surfaces of the film, so it uses few materials and achieves a high coordinate accuracy. The manufacturing method will allow customers to create touch displays with higher image quality, larger size and reduced environmental impact, Panasonic said.

The transparent conductive film features:

  • A high wiring aspect ratio to produce a display with higher image quality and larger size.
  • Double-sided full wiring with improved flexibility.
  • Reduction of environmental impact by reducing the display’s power consumption using fewer materials.

The technology enables the manufacturing of a touch display with a higher image quality and larger size, which contributes to the development of a design-free transparent antenna utilizing transparency.
