Unmanned aerial systems (UAS) vendor DroneUp has completed its first smart city drone delivery in Ontario, California.

The payload was delivered to Brookfield Properties at New Haven in Ontario.

The community also includes robot carts, e-scooters and smart hubs and is defined as one of the most progressive cities in the U.S. by offering technology that improves everyday life for residents. New Haven is the fastest growing community in California and the fifth fastest growing in the U.S.

Following a series of test flights, the delivery drone flew from the New Have Marketplace to residents in the Brookfield Properties. The city plans to offer the first authorized drone flights in this city and they will also be the first flights near a major airport (Ontario International) as well as the first drone flights with direct city involvement.

"Drones are the future of developing smart cities,” said Tripp Shannon, CRO of DroneUp. “This is particularly true for residential and retail developments seeking to create an ecosystem where engaging drones can advance connecting people to services with speed and convenience, eliminating traffic while also offering sustainable and greener options for receiving goods and services.”
