Chinese autonomous vehicle technology vendor DeepRoute has achieved a significant milestone in testing its self-driving system for 1 million kilometers on urban roads in three cities.
The company has been testing its autonomous vehicles on public roads since 2019 in Shenzhen, Wuhan and Hangzhou using Lincoln MKZ, Dongfeng E70 and Geely Geometry A.
DeepRoute is working on robotaxi partnerships with Chinese automotive OEM Dongfeng Motors in Wuhan and a different testing pilot with Cao Cao Mobility, a ride-hailing company backed by Geely. Last year, the company also received approval for testing its vehicles on California roads, although no updates on if it is testing in the state yet.
In the video, DeepRoute shows its self-driving cars traveling on public roads in the three cities including journeys through dense city traffic, at night and during heavy rain. A view from the cabin shows a human driver on board in case they need to take over control of the vehicle and the company’s software that is plotting the road in front of it and the road ahead.
At CES 2021 earlier this month, DeepRoute detailed its neural network engine for a path to Level 4 self-driving cars that is compatible with GPUs and CPUs from a wide range of vendors.
