Nokia has been selected by Taiwan Mobile as the sole supplier for its 5G network that will include 5G radio access network (RAN), 5G Core and 5G IMS.
Deployment of 5G non-standalone will happen during a three-year period and the $450 million deal will see Nokia provide its 5G RAN portfolio including its Nokia AirScale Radio Access products that will enable Taiwan Mobile to deliver ultra-low latency, connectivity and capacity.
AirScale Radio Access is a commercial end-to-end 5G solution that allows operators to get to 5G early on. Nokia’s AirScale Micro Remote Radio Head (RRH) equipment can be used both indoors and outdoors and Nokia will also provide digital design and deployment for optimization and support services as well as fast time to market, Nokia said.
The 5G Core portfolio will enable Taiwan Mobile to scale within dynamic cloud environments. 5G standalone core network functions will be used once the network is ready for deployment using unified data management, signaling and network functions provided by Nokia’s Cloud Packet Core portfolio, including the Access and Mobility Management Function, User Plane Function, Session Management Function, Network Function Repository Function and the Network Slice Selection Function and Policy Control Function.
Nokia recently signed an agreement with Taiwan Star Telecom (TST) to supply its end-to-end AirScale RAN for 5G non-standalone. The AirScale massive MIMO platform will be used for comprehensive coverage and rollouts, network design and optimization with software and hardware for digital and automated services.
