Nokia has signed a 5G deal with Taiwan Star Telecom (TST) to supply an end-to-end AirScale Radio Access network to launch a 5G non-standalone (NSA) network that will lay the foundation for 5G standalone (SA) in the future.
Nokia also installed TST’s LTE network that will be migrated to 5G services using Nokia’s AirScale BTS and AirScale Radio Access platforms. The AirScale massive MIMO platform will be used for comprehensive coverage and Nokia’s Global Services will execute rollouts, network design and optimization along with technical software and hardware support for digital and automated services.
TST secured 40 MHz of bandwidth and is under an initial phase of network deployment that will consist of 126 commercial districts and retail zones covered, which is expected to be completed by the third quarter of this year. TST expects to cover 80% of metropolitan areas by 2023.
Other software services will be able to deliver policy control and converged charging capabilities as well as enabling the creation of new digital services.
